Do you control technology or does it control you?

We are all familiar with the science fiction motif of technology turning on its creator. This motif is an old one, ever since Frankenstein their have been stories about technology going wrong. Who hasn't seen a B grade science fiction movie where robots turn on their creators and cause all sorts of problems? Metaphorically speaking is that happening to us?

What was supposed to be a tool, has at times become the master. We are slaves to our cell phones, our email, and even facebook. We must have our cell phone glued to our hip, interrupting our dinner conversations. The Internet, rather than being a tool to find things out quickly becomes a time waster, and before we know it we have wasted an hour, or more.

So this website will be about using technology, for both productivity, and entertainment on a budget. Purposefully focusing on things to help not overwhelm us, and to help us attain our goals. Furthermore this will be done on a budget. We wont be looking at the highest end devices, or the most expensive software. We will be looking at the lower cost things, the Chinese imports, the smaller companies, and the free software movement. I will be reviewing many different things here both software and hardware, that will help us be productive, and allow us to be the master over our technology, so that it does what we want whether while playing, or working.
So come with me, let us cast off the shackles of technologies rule, and instead go on a journey to get it to work for us.
